Dear Southmoor Community,
On a daily basis, I hear true words of appreciation spoken for the Southmoor staff.
They are an enthusiastic, energetic and talented group of people who care about your kids.
Each one support, educate, empower, develop, prod, encourage, influence, organize and yes, teach, your children.
I feel honored and humbled to work with each of them.
We will miss several staff members who will be moving on to new things next year.
Heartfelt thanks to the following individuals who will be missed:

Congrats on your promotions! We are so proud of Darlene Larson, 2nd grade teacher, who is moving into
a Dean position and Karla Gruenwald, Assistant Principal, who will be a principal in Centennial.
I also want to wish Grace Wingard, kindergarten teacher, and Marianna Sabatte-Doyle, .5 ESL teacher, the best in their new ECE positions.
And, last but certainly not least- Lindsay Reiter, ESL teacher, enjoy your new life in Florida as a classroom teacher!!
Southmoor is well known for its volunteers. We log thousands of hours and Southmoor would not be Southmoor without you.
A special thanks goes out to Kristi Lamar, CSC Chairperson and Becca Winslow, PTO President, for providing excellent leadership this year.
Summertime. Memorize a poem. READ. Make an obstacle course in your backyard. Paint your face. Play tag.
Make up a song. Clean the garage. READ. Try to imitate bird calls. Clean under the bed. Find shapes in the clouds. READ.
Plan a treasure hunt. READ. Practice the piano. Collect sticks and mud and build a bird's nest. Write reviews of movies or play.
Bake a batch of cookies. Have paper airplane races. Collect seeds. READ. Make sock puppets.
Vacuum under the couch cushions and keep the change. Have a marble tournament. READ. Oh did I mention READ!

We are trying to save every family time by having them register online and not wait in line.

-Chess Club(16/17 school year)
Alerting parents that Chess Club will need new leaders for next year!
Both Brian and I will be moving on leaving openings for new volunteers.
The club meets once a week from 8:10 to 9:50. The number of participants has ranged from 15-25 kids.
There is a mix of levels from beginners (just learning the pieces) to more advanced (they are highly likely to win if you engage them in a match).
There are tournaments sponsored by DPS and it is possible to do some training before you take on the responsibility of the club.
