For those of you new to Southmoor, this is a fabulous event where the vast breadth of cultures at our school can be seen and experienced.   - Katherine Sullivan PTO President Multicultural Night Sign ups for Multicultural Night are due soon! Please plan to join us for this wonderful, FREE event - on Wednesday, February 10th! Families will gather at school (6:30-8pm) to celebrate our students' diverse heritages, with displays, crafts, food and entertainment. It is a grand celebration that you won't want to miss! There is still time to return the sign up slip and let us know that your family would like to be a part of the event with a country display or a contribution to the pot luck. New this year, we have some families who have chosen to do a display for the place they are from right here in the United States! Displays do not need to be elaborate, and they can be for anywhere in the world that your family finds interesting! And don't forget the first ever Southmoor Multicultural Cookbook will be for sale at Multicultural Night - it's an amazing compilation of recipes that were collected from families at last year's Multicultural Night and you will really want this unique cookbook on your shelf!   For more information or to sign up to be a part of the celebration, please shoot an email to Ms. Reiter at school (Lindsay.Reiter@dpsk12.org. Report Back From the DPS Superintendent Parent Forum Last week I attended the DPS Superintendent Parent Forum.  The topic of this month's forum was "Rigor & Readiness: Raising the Bar for Student Success through Standards and Assessmentshttp."  Essentially it addressed DPS' results from last spring's CMAS: PARCC assessments and we engaged in activities to understand the transition from TCAP to CMAS and how the new assessments better support student success.   I have included below links to two documents I think might be helpful: 1) a booklet that helps parents understand the tests and provide support to their children in preparation for the tests.  2) copy of the presentation from the day.  I encourage you to take a look at least at the first document. The Garden Committee is in need of cardboard egg cartons.  Please drop off in the office. Box Tops Competition!!! Did you know the Classroom Box Top Contest lasts until the end of February?!?  That means keep sending your Box Tops with your student to their classroom.  You can send them in one at a time, in a bunch or tape them on to the Box Top sheet.  Anything works just get those box tops in to your teachers. Each one is worth 10¢ to our school. Starting in March, we will be collecting Box Tops at the front of the building again. Congratulations to Mrs. Henninger, Miss Loveseth, Miss Krause, Mrs. Heckart, Ms. Bauer, Mr. Farley and Ms Collins! Their classes are leading their grade in Box Tops returned!
