Dear
Southmoor Families,
We have
had a wonderful first half of the school year!
Your children are the best! They
are great learners and we are fortunate to work with such wonderful children
and families.
I would like
to share with you some information about fantastic things that are happening
with our Mighty Moose:
·
We
have an excellent staff. They are
committed to helping all students to be successful and happy. Our staff cares, works hard, and has high
expectations.
·
Our
students receive music, art, and physical education instruction from three of
the best teachers in the district. We
know that these areas, as well as reading, writing and math, are important in
making a child’s education well-rounded, and we make them a priority
·
We
have implemented a personalized learning model to make sure our students are
prepared to learn as they grow. We have
projects occurring in every grade, a new writing continuum that is built for
students to progress at their individual levels, students who move to classes
based on academic needs, and we work as a team to ensure that all students are
successful.
·
We
have an incredible community who supports our students through volunteer hours
and resources. That support has provided
field trips so that all students can learn beyond the school house walls;
technology including 3D printing, poster makers and computers; and countless
one-on-one and small group attention.
We also
have a few updates about a few things that will occur during 2nd
semester:
·
Nicole
Lopez, one of our kindergarten teachers, will be on a medical leave. She has been diagnosed with thyroid
cancer. The doctors have given her a
positive outlook after surgery. Gaye
Vasquez will be our long-term substitute for her. Gaye is an amazing educator and a familiar
educator to our students, staff and community.

Parker
Fulton will move from five days per week to four days. He has requested the change to address
personal difficulties and to ensure that when he is at school, the students have
the very best that he can give. Cindy
Gifford will be our long-term sub on Monday and Tuesday afternoons in Mr.
Fulton’s class. Cindy is an endorsed GT
teacher and a retired teacher from Jefferson County. She has spent her career working with gifted
students and educators, and she will make a great addition to our team.

Classroom
Changes: We have decided to move Mr.
Fulton’s 4th grade HGT classroom into the library. Mr. Farley’s 3rd grade classroom
has moved into Mr. Fulton’s old room.
We have made the change to address two needs. Mr. Fulton has a very large math class and
did not have enough space in the afternoon to accommodate all students. Mr. Farley’s students needed a more
structured environment. This change
will provide what we believe is best for both classrooms.
·
CONSTRUCTION
is coming again! Southmoor has been
approved to receive another Trailer this summer. The trailer will be lifted and placed behind
our existing trailers, which house our 5th grade. The electrical
capacity will be increased to allow for the additional rooms. And we will receive updates to our current
HVAC system. Please look for more
information from CSC in the upcoming months.
The information provided has been sent to the individual classrooms impacted in the last week. We wanted to make sure students and families impacted were contacted first.
