-Dollar-A-Day Update
Our thanks to the families who have
donated to this year’s Dollar-A-Day campaign.
To date we’ve raised $4,490 or 22% of our
goal – a great start! The goal this year is to raise $20,000 this fall so we
can eliminate the mid-year fundraiser...and every little bit helps!
You can also drop off a check at
school. The best part about Dollar-A-Day? Every single dollar goes
directly to Southmoor to benefits our kids.

The annual Moose is Loose carnival is one of our signature community events, but we can’t do it without a little help from you!

There are lots of ways to help: set-up,
clean-up, ticket sales, hosting a game, lending us a table, donating a cake for
the cake walk, the list goes on and on.

a 5th grader this year and deciding on what middle school to send
them to next year?
Southmoor
will host a middle school information night in which middle schools will come
and give out information about their schools.
This
is a good opportunity for parents to shop around and view their choices for
middle school. We know middle school sounds scary but we are here to help!

PTO dues are $15 a year per family.
These funds cover the managerial costs of
PTO and allow all donations received during the year to go toward teacher
grants, staffing needs, and much more in our school.

Club
We’re
getting a fantastic start with close to 100 joggers signed up so far! The track is packed with students and
parents.
It’s
a fantastic sight! Being active in the morning is a great way to get your mind
and body ready for the day.
If
you can spare some time to help with handing out popsicle sticks, that assist
students in tracking laps, please drop by any morning.
Also,
I’m in need of a parent, or two, that can lead the club on Tuesdays, due to
morning staff & committee meetings.
This
Friday, September 14th, we will have our first theme day! Southmoor parent Melissa Trujillo has
organized a Kickoff event.
All
joggers will get a temporary football tattoo and all participants are invited
to wear a sport team, Southmoor or other shirt favorite shirt.
We
will try to have a theme day every other Friday.

Footwear
Please
send your child to school every day
with shoes appropriate for safe and efficient movement on the playground and in
the gym.
It is common for students who incur injuries
to be wearing inappropriate footwear.
Sandals,
crocks and boots inhibit a child’s ability to travel safely and give their best
effort.
*Healthy Celebrations
If
you are planning to bring treats to school for a Holiday celebration or
birthday, please consider providing a health food choice.
A
healthy celebration helps kids learn better, provides consistent messages,
promotes a healthy school environment,
creates
excitement about nutrition and protects children with food allergies.
*SPARK Curriculum
The
main curriculum resource I draw from is The Sports, Play, & Active
Recreation for Kids program (SPARK).
The
SPARK program was initially funded by the Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of
the National Institutes of Health, to help reduce
cardiovascular
disease risk factors (e.g., obesity, high blood pressure, sedentary lifestyle)
that often begin in childhood.
The
SPARK program is designed to involve all children, be more active, incorporate
social skills, and emphasize health-related fitness and skill development.
