Welcome Back-
I recently saw this quote from Winston Churchill, “We make a
living by what we do, but we make a life by what we give.” It made me think about how we make a
difference for our students by volunteering.
Did you know that last year our parents and community members volunteered
over 300 hours to our students? For
students that meant: reading, math and writing support, afterschool activities,
parties, assemblies, eye and vision testing, recess support, crossing guards, a
warm smile and encouraging words. I am always so proud of our school and the way
we give to our students and families. As
a school community we continue to grow stronger because of our continued
teamwork. I want to thank each of you in advance for all of your support and
involvement.
Speaking of volunteers, PTO did a wonderful job organizing
our Back to School events. The ice cream
social was a big hit and it was nice to see everyone. I also want to thank you for attending our annual
flag ceremony. We had over 100 parents attend! Our annual “Coffee and Kleenex” and Welcome
Wagon for new families in mid-August were also well attended and well organized.
This year we are holding our Curriculum Night on September 7th.
Curriculum night is an opportunity for parents to hear about grade level
expectations and to ask questions and identify resources that are available. New Families are welcome to join us from
5:30-6:00. The evening will include two
30 minute sessions for all families to visit 2 grade levels. We look forward to seeing you!
As many of you are aware, our students did a terrific job on
PARCC during the 2016-17 school year. We
will be sending home individual scores and will continue to use data to meet
the diverse needs of students.
Just a few friendly reminders to ensure a safe and
successful school year:
- I am asking that students
not to show up for school prior to 8:30 a.m. That is when supervision will
start and we can ensure a safe environment for everyone. Students are asked to be in line when
the bell rings at 8:55 a.m.
- If you are in need of
supervision beyond the school day, I hope you will consider Discovery Link
(our School Age Child Care) program. This is our fee based before/after
school program and it is available on school grounds for your
convenience. Please contact Jon

- Be sure to leave animals
off of school grounds. We have
students who are allergic or may be afraid and we try to create a safe
place for all. Thank you for your
cooperation and support.
- Our Hug and Go Zone is off
to a slow start. For student’s safety, do not drop student off in the middle
of the street or complete a U-turn. Parking is limited. If you enter the
parking lot, please park and walk your child onto school grounds. With
everyone’s help following these procedures we can keep our students safe.
