Dear Parents:
It is the time of year we begin planning for 2018-2019
school year. An important part of the planning process is classroom placements
for next year. This process takes careful thought and consideration to ensure
that we make successful classroom assignments. These assignments are made with
the following specific considerations (not listed in any particular order):
· Learning
style – How each child learns best, are they visual,
active, auditory?
· Special
academic concerns – Are the learning or language needs
that impact learning?
· Special
behavior concerns – Are there behaviors that impact
learning?
· Balance
for new students – Are they placed where they can
make friends and learn?
· Independence
and Responsibility – How well does each child take
responsibility for their work and social relationships?
· Health
concerns – Are there specific health needs that may
impact classroom placement?
· Relationships
– are there certain past relationships that can impact classroom
placement?
· Class
size and boy -to girl ratio – Is each class
as balanced as possible?
All of these considerations are given to every
student and weighed carefully for individual needs. Your child’s teacher and
his/her team members have created classroom for next year and then had the list
reviewed by other personnel in the building i.e. special teachers, administration,
ESL, GT, and our special education staff. As a school community we are planning
on platooning next year in grades 3-5. This will ensure that all students will
have all teachers in that grade level. An example of this would be a fifth
grade student would go to Mr. Coursey for math and Ms. Riley for literacy.

I want
to recognize Lynette Bell, 5th Grade HGT teacher. Lynette is returning to her home state of
Florida. We wish her the best. Also want to congratulate Zoe Yarbrove,
special education teacher. She has
accepted a full time special education position at Bradley Elementary.
And a shout out to Mrs. Titus, our 2nd
grade teacher. She are her husband are
moving to Vermont. Mrs. Janet
Gilbert, math intervention teacher, thank you for all of your support and wisdom. Mrs. Gilbert is retiring again and plans to
spend a lot of time with her new grandchild!!! I want to wish all 4 ladies all
the best.
This is also a time to say goodbye to Mr.
Farley. Shane was the amazing educator
who stepped in mid year to support our HGT students. His ability to create relationships and
support students is to be commended. I
want to wish him the best in his new position.
