Last week several of you have contacted the school about a shooting that took place at a restaurant that is located
more than a mile away from our school. Thank you for your concerns.
I asked the leadership of Denver Public Schools Department of Safety and Security about their decision not to place our school on a lockdown or lockout
I asked the leadership of Denver Public Schools Department of Safety and Security about their decision not to place our school on a lockdown or lockout
while law enforcement officials were nearby searching for suspects. They shared that the Denver Police Department were in constant
contact coordinating responses during the situation. Because of the distance between the school and the incident, along with the significant
number of law enforcement officers in the area, the Department of Safety determined that there was not reason to put Southmoor in a lockdown or lockout.
We want to assure you that safety is our priority and we work closely with DPS Department of Security and Denver Police Department, whenever the situation warrants.

Earth Day was celebrated last week at Southmoor with students and the Garden Committee preparing the garden for planting.

Bridget Connelly has been hired for the Personalized Learning Coach at Southmoor. Ms. Connelly will be supporting the Imaginarium team and implementation of project based learning

Parents/Guardians there is no adult supervision before 8:30AM. Please do not drop off your students before that time.
If you would like to wait with them until 8:30 you are more than welcomed to.
Also, a friendly reminder that students are NOT allowed to have their cell phones.
This includes in the morning during recess or breakfast. Please remind your child they must keep cell phones in their backpack at all times.
Any phones found will be given to the main office.

This year's field day will take place on Wednesday, May 18th with the 20th reserved in case of inclement weather.
Once again, students from Thomas Jefferson High School will help out at each station along with the fifth graders.
Let's hope for sunny & hot weather!
The classes scheduled for the morning session, from 9:15 to 11:15, are Hencmann, Lovseth, Wingard, Whisnant, Larson, Heckart, Collins, Neumann, Connelly and half of Coursey.
The classes scheduled for the afternoon session, from 1:10 to 3:10, are Norman, Rickman, Fulton, Horton, Krause, Bauer, Esbenshade/Webb, Farley and half of Coursey.

Due to snow followed by a muddy track and soaked field, both sessions were canceled last week but the
after school jogging club is still meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45 until 4:05 on the upper field.
New members are welcome. There is no permission slip required. We'll conclude for the school year on Thursday, May 12th.
Come out and get jogging!

On Wednesday, April 20th seven fifth grade officers of the Student Council went to the Rocky Mountain PBS studios and taped a newscast for Super School News.
The students are Gabriella Montgomery, Ryan Johnston, Aris Larson, Luci Brendlinger, Jake Held, Evan Glathar and Joe Roode.
The Southmoor community should be proud of the pride, dedication and respect they all showed for our awesome school. Go Moose!
To view the newscast go to http://www.rmpbs.org/ssn/ and click on Southmoor Elementary. The airdate for our school is the week of May 15th on PBS Channel 6.
It will be shown at approximately 10:55 am on Tuesday, 2:55 pm on Thursday and at 10:55 am on Saturday.
